Fire District #13 Inc.

Mission Statement

It is the mission of Fire District #13, Inc. to provide fire protection, basic life support, hazardous materials incident response to the Operational Level, and Public Fire Education to Citizens, commercial and industrial occupancies of this tax district. The services will be provided in a timely fashion. Fire District #13, Inc. will also provide mutual aid assistance to any other recognized agency that requests our assistance to the best of our ability when called upon. Fire District #13, Inc. will make every effort to comply and abide by all recognized local, state and federal standards where possible and will provide the safest work environment that we possibly can for our personnel.

Departmental Update

Fire District #13 has significantly reduced it's full-time staff. Station 13- 2505 Lees Chapel Rd. will no longer be manned on a full-time basis. FD13 is now in need of the following;

  • Volunteers who live in or close to our district

  • Reserve members who do not live in or around our district, but are willing to give 12 hours a month of shift coverage

  • Resident Firefighters who live at one of our stations

June 20th 2010

FD13 will be holding a Departmental Photo for all members who can attend on Sunday June 27th at 5:30 PM. We will be holding a cookout immediately following. Please RSVP through our Facebook event, the sign-up sheets at each station, or by contacting Captain Kallam.

 

 


March 29th 2010

Congratulations to Capt. Darrell Barham and Engineer Diane Boyd who completed all four levels of High Angle Rescue School through OSFM. This is a two year processes that takes place in NC mountains.

Congratulations to Engineer Philip Butler who just recieved his STICO and PICO Instructor qualifications.

January 26th 2010

Fire District #13 would like to welcome 3 new employees. Bryan Bechemin, Michael Murphy, and Eastridge will begin Greensboro's Fire Academy on Monday February 1st 2010. Upon completion in mid June, Engineer Adam Moore, FF Kevin Miller, and FF Pirone will transfer into GFD. Congratulations to all of you.

December 1st 2009

Congratulations to FF Jennifer Mann on her new job with Greensboro Fire Department! FF Mann began her job today in the Planning Department.

FD13 would also like to welcome FF Pirone. FF Pirone will be taking Jennifer's position on B-shift until the recruit class comes out around June.

Congratulations to FF Callie Stanley on her new job with Greensboro Fire Department! FF Stanley will begin in the February recruit class.


November 1st 2009

Fire District #13 will be holding it's annual Christmas and Awards Dinner on December 12th. It will be catered this year but we are looking for a place to accommodate all our attendees. Anyone who wishes to assist with planning this event should contact Chief Neal.


October 9th 2009

FD13 just sent another handful of members through the state Surface Water Rescue Technician course. This brings the total number of FD13 personnel certified in water rescue up to 25! In addition to these 25, FF Kevin Miller has been certified as a Surface Water Rescue Technician Instructor! Congratulations to FF Miller and all of the personnel who voluntarily gave their time to attend this course!


September 10th 2009

Fire District #13 would like to congratulate Diane Boyd and Scott Kilpatrick on their recent promotion to the position of Engineer. These promotions have given us the opportunity to restructure our full-time staff assignments. New positions and staff assignments will begin October 4th 2009.

 

 

 

 

 


June 5th 2009

Fire District #13 would like to congratulate our 5 new employees; Timothy J. Wagoner, Andrew J. Mathys, David R Dixon, Jason W. Bryant, and Daniel Blair Thompson on their successful completion of Greensboro's Fire Academy. Mathys will begin work on B-Shift on Saturday, Bryant and Dixon have been assigned to C-Shift, and Thompson will be on A-Shift. T.J. Wagoner will start on A-shift in the beginning of July after completion of NC EMT-B.

 

 

 


June 3rd 2009

Northeast Guilford County was hit by flash floods this evening. FD13 succesfully completed 6 water rescues along with numorous other emergency responses. Tragically one female did lose her life to the fast moving flood waters.

We just completed a week long Surface Water Rescue Technition course. FD13 had approxamatly 13 of our members participate in the class along with members of Pinecroft Sedgefield FD, Greensboro FD, Squad 50, and even Kannapolis FD.

Congratulations to Lieutenant Shelton for receiving the NC Child Safety Seat Technician of the Year Award! Lt. Shelton will be attending the 2009 NC Child Passenger Safety Conference to be held Thursday and Friday March 12-13, 2009 in Atlantic Beach NC.

Congratulations to FF Justin Harget on receiving his NC EMT-B Certification. Additionally, Congratulations to FF Gaither Frye on his new job with Guilford County Emergency Services. FF Frye will begin March 2nd as a Logistics Technician.

FD13 placed the new Tanker 58 into service today. Tanker 58 carries 1850 gallons of water and was built by Rosenbauer. Pics will be added soon. More Info Here

Fire District #13 would like to welcome 5 new employees. Timothy J. Wagoner, Andrew J. Mathys, David R Dixon, Jason W. Bryant, and Daniel Blair Thompson will begin Greensboro's Fire Academy on Monday February 1st 2009. Upon completion in mid June, these members will begin 24 hour shifts. Fire District #13 would like to welcome our new employee. Jessie Cottrell will begin work on Sunday January 11th. Jessie has been a volunteer firefighter with the department, but will now join the rest of the career staff. Congratulations!

Employment Opportunity

Fire District #13, Inc. has career Firefighter/Driver positions available through a contractual arrangement with the City of Greensboro. Minimum qualifications include High School Diploma or equivalent and NC Driver's License. Candidates must be at least 19 years of age. Starting salary is $25,720 with adjustments after completion of the GFD Recruit Academy. Benefits include State Retirement, 401 (k), and individual health coverage, up to 80% dependent health coverage, annual cost of living increases, automatic certification increases, and annual merit increases.

September 28th 2008

Fire District #13 had 5 members complete the Rescue 3 Swiftwater Rescue Technician Class Lieutenant Chris Susi, Engineer Josh Evans,and Firefighters Brandon Barnett, Kevin Miller, and Brad Ivan all attended a rigorous3 day training course with the majority being on the Nantahala River in Western NC.

Fire District #13 would like to congratulate Matt Patterson on his recent promotion to the position of Engineer. Engineer Patterson will begin his new position on August 18th.

Fire District #13 would like to welcome 3 new employees. Brad Ivan and Michael Tasman will begin work on Monday June 30th. Joe Brady will begin July 7th. Congratulations to all of you.

Fire District #13 would like to say farewell to Firefighter Brandon Sams. Brandon has accepted a full-time position with the Mebane Fire Department in Alamance County. We wish you luck in your new position.

Fire District #13 was featured on News 2 and Fox 8 News today. FD13 crews participated in the School Bus Extrication class taught by Billy Leach. The class was presented three days in a row allowing each shift the opportunity to learn the skills.

Fire District #13 was featured in the News and Record today. FD13 crews participated in the Big Rig Rescue class taught by Billy Leach. The class was presented three days in a row, presenting each group with it's own unique scenario. In addition to the News and Record article, Assistant Chief King was featured on WXII News at 5 O'Clock.

May 6th 2008

Fire District #13 has purchased a set of Res-Q-Jacks for Rescue 13. Billy Leach, Developer and Sr. Presenter of BIG RIG RESCUE, Spent 2 full days training our personnel on the ins and outs of how to use this system. Billy has presented at FDIC, Firehouse Expo, FDNY and many other venues. FD13 would like to thank Billy for taking his time to assist us with this training.

Rescue 13 was placed into service today at approximately15:30 hrs! Rescue 13 is a brand new rescue truck.
